ShiFen

Another stop of the Taipei to Ilan railroad is ShiFen. It is mostly know for it's waterfalls.

It's a good walk to the falls from the train station but there are lots to see along the way.
The view of the falls is in a park across the river, with good facilities for picnicing and playground equipment. One display of old cart wheels looks like it could have been done in the American West. Wooden wheels with steel rims.

In this same amusement park, I see that the old creosote RR ties have been reused for a decorate walkways.
The RR has replaced all of it's wooden ties with ones made of concrete.

  1. Pretty area -- How does Taiwan compare in size to one of the United States? Mary

  2. It was a nice falls but only about 50 feet across and 50 feet down. As one English tourist said: "It's no Niagra." Even Snohomish Falls outside of Seattle is maybe 4 times larger.
